As IPL is deciding to introduce new teams in 2016 tournaments to replace the suspended Chennai and Rajasthan franchises, this might be a good news for Greater Noida. Mr Rajeev Shukla IPL chairmen is looking for a new venue to host 2016 matches & luckily Greater Noida Stadium have all the potential infrastructure they are looking for.
A senior official at Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association told that “Greater Noida is developed in terms of infrastructure and connectivity, only an hour’s drive from Delhi and has a number of luxury hotels where teams can stay. Additionally, it has hosted the Formula One Grand Prix in the past which means it is not new to hosting big sporting events. All these things are in the city’s favour.” Officials at the Greater Noida Stadium, however, are keeping mum on the issue. They neither confirm nor deny the development.
However, Mr. Shukla was in Noida last Monday accompanying Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden on his visit to the city. During the visit, they reviewed the facilities at the Greater Noida Stadium for its suitability to host IPL matches. Cricket fans in the city will certainly be keeping their fingers crossed, hoping that IPL makes a pit stop in Noida.
